Peggy Dylan and Sundoor Firewalk Training
When I completed my original Firewalk Instructor Training I went into it quite naively, making my choices about which training to take part in based on location close to me etc. It was only once I qualified, and I started on my own leadership journey with the fire that I started to learn about Peggy Dylan, often considered to mother of the modern Firewalking movement.
But how I came to learn from Peggy, who is now retired from teaching, is a much more exciting adventure…
I snapped
I had been with my friend from Latvia, spending time in the mountains of Georgia, when I broke my ankle in the mountains.
This started me on a crazy adventure… I had to be flown home (I had to have 3 seats on the flight so I could keep my leg up!) and taken into Stoke Mandeville hospital to have surgery on my leg. After a couple of days in hospital I was allowed home, told that I would have to return for a post-op appointment in 10 days.
Anyone that knows me will know that I am not good at sitting still. Sitting around the house while my leg healed was not my finest moments! I sat scrolling on social media, feeling sorry for myself, when I saw a wee video of a ball of fire rolling on Peggy’s facebook page, it was as though it called directly to me, and I messaged Peggy to find out more about what it was about.
It was an advert for Peggy’s Firewalk Masters training. She told me the training was taking part in 5 weeks time – being at home with a broken leg I had no idea how I would manage to get to the training! And being laid up meant I had no real way of earning the funds for it either. BUT… I knew I was supposed to be there, and started dreaming the dreams of making it a reality.
My healing mantra
I started repeating to myself the mantra ‘I heal quickly’ and waited for my hospital appointment, that didn’t arrive. In the end I called the hospital who told me they’d made a mistake and forgotten to send my appointment – I had no idea how I was going to make it to the training, when I was already a week delayed on my healing journey.
But, a miracle was in the making.
When I finally did get along for my post op appointment, they took an xray and… my leg had healed MUCH quicker than expected, and they took the plaster off weeks early.
In the meantime, I’d also had a couple of friends after websites, which I was able to help them with to be able to put funds towards being there.
Making the trip on crutches, leaning on my suitcase for extra support, was not easy, but I made it. I think I gave alot of people there a shock or two as I stepped into so many of the activities with a limp and a grimace, but I was delighted to be able to learn from Peggy while she was still teaching.
Peggy is considered a practical mystic and was the founder of Sundoor Firewalking. The name Sundoor comes from Inuit mythology, in which the “Sun Door” is the last stage one goes through in order to live in conscious connection with the Divine. A beautiful reflection of what Peggy created during her years of teaching.
My aim with my own Fiewalk Instructor Trainings, and Master Trainings is to be a reflection of Peggy, directing my teachings toward both spiritual well-being and personal and professional success. Peggy’s work embodied what Saints and Masters have taught for thousands of years – happiness and success come through our alignment with Spirit, and it is always my goal to carry that forward through my own work.
Peggy became a pioneer in spiritual and leadership trainings in the late ‘70s and catapulted Firewalking to international attention in 1982. In the following two decades, she powerfully impacted hundreds of thousands with her unique techniques for personal achievement and spiritual well-being and created impressive footsteps to follow in
